MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic team has concluded its internal camp, which began on August 4 in preparation for the upcoming AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers Qatar 2024, set to take place during the Fifa days in September. Under the guidance of national coach Akram Habreesh, the selected squad of 24 players has been trained and prepared to showcase their skills on the international stage. The talented line-up includes notable players such as Al Faraj al Kiyoumi, Khalid al Ghatrifi, Salim al Abdulsalam, Said al Salami, Abdulhafeedh al Mukhaini, Omar al Salti, Osama al Haddabi, Mohammed al Hinai, Imran al Numani, Mulhim al Sunaidy, Maytham al Ajmi, Nasser al Rawahi, Mohammed Makhloof, Mamoun al Araimi, Mohammed al Salhi, Abdullah al Fulaiti, Abdulmajeed al Balushi, Abdullah al Mukhaini, Yousef al Ghailani, Abdullah al Alawi, Salim al Dawoodi, Nibras al Maashari, Mohammed Abdulhakim and Ali al Balushi.
The team will head to Turkey for an external camp, which will continue until August 23. The external camp aims to further hone their skills and build strong team dynamics in preparation for the challenging qualifiers.
Oman U23 squad will compete in Group A of the qualifiers, alongside Jordan, Syria and Brunei. The matches for Group A will take place at the Petra Stadium in Amman, Jordan, from September 6 to 12.
A total of 43 teams are participating in the tournament, and are divided into 11 groups. Among them, 10 groups comprise four teams each, while the last group includes three teams. The qualifiers will adopt a round-robin format with a single round, and only the top team from each group along with the four best second-placed teams, will secure their place in the finals.
Consequently, a total of 16 teams, including the host team Qatar, will make it to the AFC U23 Asian Cup.
Oman’s Olympic team will commence their journey in the qualifiers on September 6, facing Syria. On the same day, Jordan will take on Brunei. Oman’s second match will be against Jordan on September 9, following the Syria-Brunei encounter. The group stage will culminate on September 12, with Brunei locking horns with Syria, while Jordan compete against Syria.
