Muscat: His Majesty the Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Tuesday issued a Royal Decree No. (53/2023) promulgating the Labour Law.
Some highlights
• The employer is committed to providing an appealing and well-organized work environment.
• The employer must implement a performance appraisal system within their establishment.
• Working hours will be divided with a break of one hour
• Upon the worker's request, they may be granted a special unpaid leave.
• The worker's rights must not be compromised if they are assigned to work that was not agreed upon.
• If it is proven that the worker cannot work during night-time, they may be transferred to day-time work
• The main privileges of the employer include certain rights and authorities are:.
• According to the law, workers or their representatives must report any disputes to the competent settlement committee for prompt resolution.
• Work in specific sectors must be organized according to the working conditions in each sector, ensuring stability in establishments.
• This allows the business owner to manage their establishment based on the sector's conditions.
• The law's second chapter of Title IX establishes a joint dialogue committee between production parties.
• The law permits the employer, with the Ministry's approval, to temporarily assign any worker to work for another.
