SALALAH: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Dhofar Governorate is launching an innovative agricultural extension program to empower rural women.
The programme, which is focused on rainfed crops, aims to support 40 women with expertise in agricultural practices from different states.
The extension programme will provide well-cultivated seeds suitable for Dhofar's mountainous terrain and comprehensive training on crop selection, planting, and harvesting techniques. Technical assistance and access to marketing opportunities will also be offered.
The primary goal of the programme is to improve the livelihoods of rural women and enhance food security in the region by preserving the tradition of rainfed crops.
The programme also represents a significant milestone in women's empowerment in Dhofar and aims to foster self-reliance and prosperity among women pioneers in agriculture.
Eng Radwan bin Abdullah Al Ibrahim, Director of the Agricultural Development Department in Dhofar, emphasises the importance of rainfed crops as a lifeline for rural women during uncertain times.
"As the world faces uncertainties, these seasonal rainfed crops become more than just a tradition; they become a lifeline for rural women," said Eng. Al Ibrahim.
"The extension programme for rural women aims to empower 40 beneficiaries across different states known for their expertise in rainfed crops. These women will receive support and well-cultivated seeds that thrive in Dhofar's unique mountainous terrain."
The extension programme is scheduled to commence in early 2024.
