Tax Authority discusses strategy to develop tax system in Dhofar

SALALAH: His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, recently met with Saud bin Nasser al Shukaili, Head of the Tax Authority, and other key officials in the governorate to discuss the strategic plans and objectives of the Tax Authority in Dhofar Governorate.


The meeting focused on enhancing tax awareness and developing a robust tax system in the governorate.


The officials discussed measures to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the Tax Authority's operations while keeping the cost of tax collection to a minimum. Reducing the tax gap and ensuring sustainable tax revenues were also key objectives under discussion.


The officials also discussed defining the responsibilities and powers of the Tax Authority's branch in the governorate, along with the working mechanism.


They highlighted that the Tax Authority diligently aligns its practices with the best global tax standards, taking into account economic, financial, social, regional, and global developments.


A crucial aspect of the meeting focused on streamlining processes for taxpayers and easing compliance burdens. All attendees acknowledged the importance of making the tax system more taxpayer-friendly and hassle-free.


In line with the Dhofar Governorate Office's announcement, efforts to develop the tax system were outlined across four main axes.


These included establishing electronic links with various government units and implementing a comprehensive development program for electronic billing.


The goal was to stay abreast of advancements in electronic transformation, ensuring an efficient and modern tax framework.


The meeting was a vital platform to shed light on the Tax Authority's essential functions and initiatives in Dhofar Governorate.


As strategic plans continue to evolve, stakeholders can expect a more dynamic and taxpayer-focused tax landscape in the region.
