Muscat: The Royal Oman Police, in close collaboration with the governors's offices, has undertaken significant measures to ensure the safety of the road leading to Dhofar Governorate. Recognising the importance of this route, patrols have been strategically deployed along the thousand- kilometre stretch.
Moreover, the Civil Defence stands ready to promptly respond to any accidents or similar incidents that may arise.
Emphasising the importance of compliance with regulations and laws, the Royal Oman Police strongly advises all highway users to adhere to these guidelines. Ensuring that vehicles are in optimal condition is also stressed to safeguard lives and prevent accidents.
Before embarking on long trips, it is highly recommended to ensure that the vehicle has undergone comprehensive maintenance. This proactive measure is crucial for both safety and the smooth operation of the vehicle throughout the journey, ROP assured.
It is crucial to note that specific sections of the road are exposed to challenging conditions, including high temperatures and sandstorms. Certain areas are prone to the formation of sand dunes on the road, presenting additional hazards.
“It is crucial to reduce the speed to maintain control over the vehicle and navigate the dunes safely”, ROP advises. This allow the driver to respond to any unexpected changes in the road conditions. ROP also warns that steering abruptly or making sharp turns on sandy surfaces can lead to loss of control and potential rollovers. The road user should maintain smooth and gradual turns, allowing the vehicle to navigate the dunes with stability.
To effectively address these challenges, the Royal Oman Police consistently activates road guidelines and maintains close coordination with maintenance companies. Their primary objective is to ensure a seamless and safe passage for vehicles, eliminating any delays or traffic congestion that may occur along the way.
