According to the latest data released by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the expatriate workforce in Oman is experiencing a steady growth trajectory. The report sheds light on the key trends in expatriate worker demographics and sector-wise distribution, providing valuable insights into the labour market landscape.
The data highlights an overall increase in the total number of expatriate workers in Oman, reaching 1,784,736 individuals as of May 2023. This represents a significant growth of 0.8% compared to the previous month. The report further reveals a notable expansion in various sectors, contributing to the country's economic development.
In terms of sector-wise distribution, the private sector emerged as the largest employer of expatriate workers, with a substantial workforce of 1,406,925 individuals. Employed in various government entities are a total of 44,236 expatriates.
Analyzing the data by nationality, the report reveals Bangladeshis as the largest group of expatriate workers in Oman, totaling 703,840 individuals. They are closely followed by Indian workers with 530,242 individuals. The Pakistani community also represents a sizable portion, with 275,719 workers actively participating in various sectors.
Moreover, the report highlights the prominent governorates hosting expatriate workers. Muscat, the capital city, stands out as the leading governorate, accommodating 669,527 expatriate workers. Dhofar and Musandam also emerged as significant contributors to Oman's workforce, employing 220,705 and 14,727 individuals, respectively.
