AMMAN: The Omani-Jordanian Joint Committee held its 11th meeting in Amman on Thursday under the chairmanship of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, and Ayman Al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
During the meeting, Sayyid Badr stressed that Oman and Jordan have been developing strong relations that continue to grow and prosper, thanks to the wise directives and Royal attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein.
The minister pointed out that Oman-Jordan relations get renewed, coupled with the two countries peoples’ aspiration for wider partnership and cooperation in various economic, cultural, technical and scholarly fields.
Sayyid Badr stressed that harmony prevails in Oman-Jordan visions and stances towards regional and international issues. In this context, the minister stressed the need to resolve disputes through dialogue and by peaceful means, based on the rules of the international law and respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and legitimate rights of states.
The two sides also underlined the importance of expanding the horizons of joint cooperation in economic, commercial and investment fields. They emphasised the role of the private sector in expanding the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and enhancing joint cooperation in areas of great economic revenue.
They discussed ways to bolster cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, environment, transport, communications, information technology, digital economy, health and education, tourism, culture and information.
The two sides signed the minutes of the Omani-Jordanian Committee’s 11th session. They also inked a number of memoranda and executive programmes in the fields of industrial cities, youth, the environment, consumer protection and educational cooperation.
The two ministers condemned the continuous attacks staged at the occupied Palestinian territories, the most recent of which was on the storming of Jenin city. They warned against the repercussions of Israel’s continued occupation and illegitimate unilateral steps which, they said, undermine the Two-State solution.
The two sides urged the international community to take practical measures and urgent steps to lend necessary financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Such action is highly needed to address the financial deficit faced by the Agency and assist it to provide its services to the Palestinian refugees in line with its UN mandate.
Sayyid Badr and Ayman Al Safadi also underscored the importance of the Arab role — after the meetings of Jeddah and Amman — to contribute to efforts to reach a solution to the Syrian crisis in line with UN Resolution 2254.
The two sides agreed to hold the 12th session of the Joint Ministerial Committee in Oman in 2024 on a date to be set through diplomatic channels.
The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Hashel al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Shaikh Faisal bin Omar al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department, and Faisal bin Sultan al Hosni, Chargé d’affaires of the Sultanate of Oman’s Embassy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The meeting was also attended by Dana Alzoubi, Secretary-General of the the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Amjad Kuhewi , Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Sultanate of Oman, among other officials. - ONA
