The Sultanate Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology participated in the fourth G20 Space Economy Leaders Meeting in the Republic of India.

Under the theme of “‘Towards a New Space ERA (Economy, Responsibility, Alliance)”, the two-day forum, aimed to explore collaborative opportunities in the space industry.

The Omani delegation was led by Dr. Ali Al Shidhani, the Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Earlier this year, the Ministry unveiled the country’s first national executive space program which aims to “to position the Sultanate of Oman as a regional getaway for space applications” over the next 10 years according to an official.

According to the program, the country will focus mainly on downstream opportunities, which utilize space technologies, data and services on Earth.

Additionally, the Ministry has identified various investment opportunities in the sector including the establishment of the region’s first space port in al Duqm.

In 2021, the global space economy was valued at $469 billion. The figure is expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2030 according to global consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
