MUSCAT: In preparation for the upcoming Eid al Adha celebrations, the Muscat Municipality has elevated the preparedness of its slaughterhouses to meet the community's needs for a wide range of sacrificial offerings.
The Directorate-General of Health Affairs, under the Muscat Municipality, has emphasised the importance of enhancing readiness levels and improving the efficiency of equipment and tools used in slaughterhouses. Collaboration with the operating company has been strengthened to ensure an adequately trained staff for slaughter and meat processing, equipped with the latest tools to ensure safe and healthy procedures while maintaining cleanliness and avoiding pollutants.
A specialised team of technical and veterinary experts closely supervises every stage of the slaughtering process.
In an effort to promote responsible practices during Eid al Adha, Muscat Municipality appeals to community members to avoid indiscriminate slaughtering or engaging with itinerant butchers. With high temperatures and a lack of a healthy environment, itinerant butchers may lack the necessary expertise in proper transportation, storage, preservation, and appropriate disposal of slaughter waste.
The municipality emphasises the importance of following instructions when purchasing fresh meat, including ensuring the municipality's seal is present on the carcass, indicating it was slaughtered in authorised slaughterhouses under specialised supervision.
Furthermore, when purchasing chilled or imported meat, consumers are advised to check the label for production country and expiration date, while maintaining a temperature not exceeding 4 degrees Celsius. Frozen meat should be kept at a temperature below -18 degrees Celsius. Additionally, consumers are encouraged to be present during the cutting or mincing of meat to ensure its quality.
Muscat Municipality also announced the readiness of the central market for vegetables and fruits. Measures have been taken to reschedule working hours within the market and regulate the entry of vehicles, ensuring smooth movement. The central market holds great commercial and purchasing significance, attracting a large number of shoppers during this period.
Emphasising its commitment to public health, the Muscat Municipality prioritises the food and hygiene sector and intensifies control and inspection efforts. Inspection teams diligently monitor activities within the market and external establishments such as stores, restaurants and cafes.
Field visits are increased to ensure compliance with health requirements, ensuring the quality, storage, preservation, cleanliness and validity of products. These measures aim to uphold the highest standards of public health and guarantee consumer safety. ONA
