Habta Al Eid, a seasonal traditional market, is a vibrant marketplace, held in various locations across the country that marks a cherished tradition of Omani culture.
The duration of the market varies from wilayat to wilayat, with some hosting it for the ten days leading up to Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha.
Al Habta offers a diverse array of products essential for the festive season. From exquisite clothing to livestock, Omani sweets, and delightful children's toys, visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere while exploring the market's offerings.
Omanis embark on journeys from one region to another, traversing the nearby wilayats in search of the finest goods, particularly when it comes to procuring live meat. Al Habta activities, such as the captivating livestock auction known as 'calling,' enthrall attendees who eagerly participate.
Ahmed al Rashdi, a resident of the Wilayat of Ibra, highlighted the significance of the Habta as a cherished Omani heritage that has been passed down through generations. Each year, the Wilayat of Ibra becomes a hub of diverse descents, hosting Al Habta in various villages throughout the wilayat.
"The Habta is characterised in some areas of Al Sharqiyah North Governorate by many activities such as horse racing and shows. as well as camel racing and show," he added.
Al Rashdi further emphasised that these Habta serve as valuable social events, where community members come together to revel in the vibrant activities and forge stronger bonds with one another.
For children, Al Habta serves as a source of immense joy during both Eids. They don their finest Omani attire, eagerly venturing to Al Habta to purchase toys, nuts, and traditional Omani foods readily available in the market. Moreover, Al Habta caters to all the necessary items required to uphold Omani customs during the festive days.
It provides supplies for preparing the delectable Arsiya dish, consisting of rice and meat, typically enjoyed before attending the Eid chapel.
Additional items available for purchase include ghee, palm leaf, palm frond barbecue sauce, dry banana leaves, firewood for grilling and cooking meat, as well as tools essential for the slaughtering and preparation of Eid meat.
Al Habta also showcases a wide selection of Omani traditional attire for men, including daggers, sticks, dishdashas, shoes, and many more.
