MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) organised a joint meeting with suppliers under the slogan 'Together for a Safe Market for All' in the presence of Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem al Hakmani, Chairman of the Authority, and a number of officials and stakeholders, suppliers and workers in related commercial activities.
It was in conjunction with the 'Prohibited Goods Campaign', to enhance legal awareness among suppliers of legislation related to consumer protection. In addition, it enhances the social responsibility of suppliers and coming up with proposals that contribute to strengthening Communication between the Authority and suppliers to reach a safe market for all.
The meeting shed light on the decisions to ban goods, the types of prohibited goods, and the penalties resulting from them. Various issues, including trust between suppliers and the Authority, came for discussion during the meeting.
Sulayem bin Ali bin Sulayem al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority, said, "The importance of the meeting lies in communicating with suppliers and merchants and introducing them to prohibitions and laws related to consumer protection. Contribute to achieving true partnership and strengthening commitment to providing an Omani market free of harmful practices."
He added that the meeting was an opportunity to protect the consumer and ensure the stability of the markets by enhancing awareness of prohibitions and laws, and contributes to providing a safe and stable commercial environment, as merchants and suppliers avoid the supply of prohibited goods and have a comprehensive understanding of the legislation regulating consumer protection.
It was mentioned that the Omani markets are closely linked to the global and regional markets, and accordingly, commodities are affected by the principle of supply and demand. Markets, achieving economic balance, protecting the rights of consumers and the interests of merchants, taking into consideration achieving a fair balance between them.
The Authority increased the pace of its control and inspection work on the markets before Eid Al Adha. Its stability and availability of goods in sufficient quantities to consumers.
Mohammed bin Mubarak al Qasimi, Head of the Cases and Judgment Follow-up Department at the Legal Department of the Authority, said: "Such meetings are to ensure an affirmation of the Authority's role in building bridges of cooperation and bringing points of view between the provider and the Authority closer. Even to ensure that suppliers are aware of the Consumer Protection Law, legislation, regulations and decisions issued by them, and ensure that they do not fall under Legal accountability and their role in social responsibility between them and consumers."
Basma bint Saud al Rahbiyah, one of the suppliers, said: "Communication is constant between the corporation and the Authority intending to review the laws and regulations and the developments that occur to them through our periodic visit to the Authority for clarification and confirmation. We also introduce the decisions of the Regulatory Authority and the most important ban decisions to all our employees and our branches in the governorates. Cooperate with suppliers so that you are in direct contact to send regulatory decisions during their issuance via e-mails to exporting and importing companies so that the supplier does not fall under legal accountability if he is unaware."
Moreover, the campaign for prohibited goods under the slogan (Your awareness protects you) was launched as part of a series of awareness campaigns that it is implementing during the current year to enhance awareness among consumers and suppliers alike in various fields.
