Tropical cyclone Biporjoy is now classified as category 2 with distance from the centre to Oman at 980 km.
The closest rainy clouds are at a distance of 640 km. The direction now is north towards the centre of the Arabian Sea.
The system's position now is N 17.3 and E 67.4. The wind speed around the centre is 83-90 KT.
Avoid going to the sea for three more days, warned the Oman Met Office after the tropical cyclone was classified as category 2.
Weather forecasters said that areas of Oman bordering the Arabian Sea might continue to face rough seas for three more days while its destination might be the coasts of India and Pakistan.
The Sultanate of Oman is unlikely to be affected, but the situation is being monitored as a precautionary measure.
Earlier, the Met Office warned that the low lying areas of Arabian Sea coasts could face inundation of sea water.
The first cyclone of the year in the Arabian Sea has had its way in confusing the monitoring teams across the region on its track as well as in its intensity. Various models had predicted various tracks, but Oman Met Office has been on track.
“Cyclone Biporjoy has moved about 910 km south of Karachi,” the country's Met Office said on Saturday.
In India, Kerala has issued a yellow alert while heavy rains are expected in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The coastal areas will see the sea waves rising to rough waves 3-6 metres on the coasts of the Arabian Sea during the next three days, and the average waves on the coasts of the Sea of Oman is expected to be 1.5-2.5 metres, starting from Monday, June 12, 2023.
The general weather forecast for Sunday stated that it would be mainly clear skies with a chance of clouds formation over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas during the afternoon. Chances of high clouds advection along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea continue with possibility of late night to early morning low level clouds over parts of coasts of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
Along the Oman Sea coast, winds will be southwesterly light at night changing to northeasterly light to moderate at day time, and along the rest of the governorates it will be northwesterly light to moderate occasionally fresh, while along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea winds will be southwesterly moderate to fresh.
Maximum temperature was recorded in Al Mudhaibi with 46 degrees Celsius, while Al Buraimi, Al Suwaiq, Nizwa, Adam, Fahud, Duqm and Marmul recorded 45 degrees Celsius. The coolest place was Jabal Shams with a maximum of 18 degrees Celsius and a low of 12 degrees Celsius.
