MUSCAT: Nominations have been invited for the 6th CCED Oman student awards for postgraduate education, according to the promoters of the rare student recognition programme where students, professors, and industry stakeholders can nominate exemplary individuals for this paid internship at CCED as part of the accolade.
The Oman Student Awards for the Advancement of Postgraduate Education, instituted by CC Energy Development, has seen previous winners go on to secure senior positions in many of Oman's leading industrial companies and policy roles in the public sector, were launched today by CC Energy Development, one of the country's biggest independent oil producers, to receive 2023 submissions.
Speaking to Observer, Walter Simpson, Managing Director, CCED, said that these students include not just the founders of new industries and technologies but also the future leaders of companies, academia, and government organisations.
"Our vision is to mould a PG community of Masters and PhD students in Oman that supports and contributes to a country's transition into a diversified and knowledge-based economy. Investing in the future of local and national talent is part of CCED's core strategy in adding business value and achieving growth along with the communities we work with," said Simpson.
The selection committee, which will score the nominee profiles, comprises distinguished individuals from local and international government, academia and industry. The winners will be presented with their Awards at the 10th Oman Industry Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum 2023 on November 1.
The Oman Student Awards were established in 2016 to celebrate the role that postgraduate education plays in creating an innovation ecosystem that can invent the future in part through research, in part through education, and in part through active efforts to move university-derived ideas into industry.
The criteria for PhD awards are as follows
Omani National or Oman-based and Oman-educated for a period of 10 consecutive years, Near completion of PhD or a recent PhD graduate in an energy-related field (Degree must have been completed within the past two years), demonstrates potential to be a future thought leader in the energy industry in Oman, PhD dissertation should be relevant to Oman, demonstrate the intention of working in Oman and finally extra weight is given to doctorate research that clearly impacts the advancement of the industry.
The criteria for masters award are Omani national or Oman-based and Oman-educated for 10 consecutive years, near completion of a Master's or a recent Master's graduate in an energy-related field (degree must have been completed within the past two years), demonstrates potential to be a future thought leader in the energy industry in Oman, current or planned involvement in energy-related research in Oman, demonstrate the intention of working in Oman, extra weight will be given to those with the intent to pursue a PhD., and finally exemplary undergraduate and graduate grades.
