Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will launch a joint tourist visa and implement initiatives to boost tourism between the two countries.
During the recent meeting between Salim al Mahrooqi, Minister of Tourism, and Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Minister, Ahmad Al Khatib in Muscat, it was decided to focus on joint projects to attract foreign tourists, as well as citizens and residents of GCC, which include a unified tourist visa, the seasonal flights, and the creation of a joint tourism calendar, reports quoting Saudi newspaper Saudi Gazette said.
During the first quarter of this year, around 164,000 Omani tourists visited Saudi Arabia, a 136 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Similarly, nearly 49,000 Saudi tourists visited Oman during this time, showcasing a growth of 92 percent.
His Highness Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman held a meeting to discuss efforts aimed at strengthening the position of the Sultanate of Oman as a preferred tourist destination for Gulf and Saudi tourists in particular.
Sayyid Faisal stressed the need to raise awareness among Saudi citizens of the tourism potentials of the Sultanate of Oman, especially adventure tourism, leisure, and cultural and heritage attractions.
The Sultanate of Oman has a distinguished tourist season during the period from June to September of each year, which is the Khareef season in Dhofar,
