First phase of National Biodiversity Survey project completed in Al Buraimi and Al Dhahirah

Muscat: In the initial field surveys for the National Survey of Biodiversity project in Al Buraimi Governorate, 11 species of birds, 3 species of mammals, and 6 species of reptiles were observed, in addition to monitoring traces and recent remains of six species of wild mammals, including wild and sandy cats, Arabian tahrs, and lynx.

In Al Dhahirah Governorate, 12 species of birds, two types of wild mammals, three types of reptiles, and the traces and remains of four species were directly monitored such as the mountain fox and the hare.

The National Biodiversity Survey project in the Sultanate of Oman aimed to build a national database of species, particularly wild mammals, in order to update their areas of existence and the changes that occurred to them as a result of economic and urban activities, as well as access accurate statistics for the census of all types of medium and large wild mammals.
