The Oman Basketball Association (OBA) and Credit Oman have renewed their memorandum to launch the highly anticipated of second edition of the Credit Oman Elite Basketball Cup. Following the overwhelming success of the inaugural tournament, this partnership aims to further promote basketball and support the development of talented young athletes.
The agreement was formally signed by Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, head of the OBA, and Shaikh Khalil bin Ahmed al Harthy, CEO of Credit Oman, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Shaikh Khalil al Harthy, emphasised the significance of the partnership with the OBA. He stated, "This agreement exemplifies our commitment to supporting sports association and fulfilling our social responsibility to empower youth and the sports sector. We take great pride in our ongoing partnership for the second consecutive year."
Al Harthy further emphasised that Credit Oman's sponsorship initiatives aim to provide a conducive environment for young men and women to pursue various sports disciplines. Additionally, the tournament will benefit clubs to preparing them for future competitions, facilitating talent discovery, and nurturing athletes who can contribute to national teams and clubs.
Acknowledging the successful collaboration, Eng Khalfan al Naabi, expressed his delight at renewing the partnership with Credit Oman. He affirmed, "This partnership renewal underscores our commitment to the sustainability of the Elite Basketball Clubs Championship. Building upon the success of the inaugural tournament, we are confident that this continued cooperation will help us to achieve our vision, goals, and plans for the development of basketball in Oman."
Al Naabi highlighted the importance of marketing basketball tournaments to enhance the sport's growth. He emphasised that the basketball sector is a promising field supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, which has launched youth preparation centres in several clubs across the Sultanate of Oman. The association also collaborates closely with Oman School Sports Association (OSSA) to promote basketball in schools and identify promising players for further training opportunities.
Furthermore, the association works in partnership with private academies dedicated to basketball, providing comprehensive training to various age groups. This cooperative effort facilitates the expansion of the game and enables clubs to recruit talented players from these academies.
Al Naabi emphasised that the association's plans include hosting basketball tournaments in collaboration with government and private institutions. Notably, they have successfully organized basketball trio tournaments in cooperation with Muscat Municipality, along with upcoming events in populous areas, commercial complexes, and festivals throughout the Sultanate of Oman. The association values the private sector's support and partnership, as it contributes significantly to the growth and presence of basketball in the country.
He emphasised the crucial role of the government and private sectors in supporting basketball and expressed this by saying support will be appreciated by OBA. Al Naabi concluded by highlighting the success of the Credit Oman Elite Basketball Championship, now in its second edition, as a stepping stone towards further support, particularly from the private sector. Such support will enable the association to build formidable national teams capable of representing the Sultanate of Oman in international competitions.
