MUSCAT: The Oman Karate Committee convened a crucial meeting on Friday evening at the Diplomatic Club in Al Khuwair, under the leadership of Shaikh Salem bin Hamad al Mahrouqi, Chairman of Oman Karate Committee. The meeting witnessed the presence of the committee's secretary, Hamoud bin Salem al Touqi, and members including Obaid bin Moosa al Busaidi, Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Dr Ali bin Talib al Raisi, Suleiman bin Khalifa al Hinai, Chairman of the Referees Committee, and Faris bin Nasser al Busaidi.
Commencing the meeting, Salem al Mahrouqi expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to the members of the committee for their relentless dedication and remarkable efforts during the preceding period. The chairman proceeded to announce the committee's upcoming plans, which encompassed a diverse range of events and competitions.
The committee unveiled its agenda, highlighting two major events to be hosted in Oman. Firstly, the 15th Sultanate of Oman Karate Championship for adults in September of this year. Secondly, preparations are underway for the 16th Sultanate of Oman Karate Championship for children. This championship, scheduled to take place in December 2023, aims to foster young talent and promote the development of karate in the region. Additionally, the committee has also committed to participating in the prestigious 15th Arab Games to be held in Algeria from July 5 to 15.
Moreover, the committee has set its sights on the Asian Championship for adults, set to be hosted in Malaysia from July 21 to 23. This esteemed championship represents a remarkable opportunity for Omani athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage and bring honour to their nation.
During the meeting, the committee also approved essential internal work controls designed to enhance the efficiency and organisation of its operations. These measures will streamline processes, ensuring the smooth functioning of the committee and reinforcing its commitment to excellence.
It was emphasised that the committee's utmost priority is to dedicate collective efforts towards the successful and distinguished execution of its mandate. The committee vowed to provide the highest standard of service, not only to promote karate at local and international levels, but also to contribute to the advancement of sports in general.
