International food additives safety summit opens in Muscat today

A safety summit centring on food additives opens at the Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel today, May 15, 2023. Organised in partnership by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the University of Michigan, and the Gulf Standardisation Organisation (GSO), this summit aims to foster international collaboration and establish robust standards for food additives.


Bringing together esteemed experts from around the world, the summit will delve into crucial aspects of food safety to facilitate global coordination on regulations and standards pertaining to food additives. Notable attendees include legislative and regulatory authorities, representatives from the commercial and industrial sectors, consumer protection associations, as well as experts from ministries such as agriculture and Commerce.


With a comprehensive agenda, the summit will cover a wide range of topics, emphasising the following key areas: Global coordination and adherence to international regulations on food additives; Valuable insights from the Codex Committee on Food Additives; and Technical regulations and standards specific to food additives in the Gulf region.


The collaborative partnership between the public and private sectors in developing resilient food safety systems for food additives.
