‘Blue, maybe’ wins jury award

The short film ‘Blue, maybe,’ directed by Mohammed al Kindi and produced by Oman Film Society has won the jury award at the festival organised by the Culture, Tourism and Sports Films Promotion Association (TANITMADER) with the support of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, held at the Antalya Culture and Art Auditorium Hall on May 12.


The short film ‘Blue, maybe’ looks at thinking of the youth which is not always in harmony with the family.


Speaking to the Observer, Al Kindy, director of the ‘Blue, maybe’, said the “aim of the youth in life does not meet the expectations of the family. I would like to thank Oman Film Society.”


The film produced by Oman Film Society had Raid al Amri as the lead actor with two scenarists in Dr Salim al Maamari and Hilal al Maamari.


The 16-minute-long film story shows the struggle of a young man trying to convince his father about wanting to pursue art as his career path. The film has participated in Digital International Film Festival in Algeria, festivals in Al Ain, Film Lab in Bangladesh, Al Batinah Film Festival as well as Women and Youth in Oman.


The film was made as part of the workshop that was conducted by the Oman Film Society (OFS) and directed by Mohammed al Kindy. The participants were predominantly from OFS.

Approximately 350 films and documentaries from 38 countries competed in nine main categories at the festival.


The works that won were “On a Quest With Jaswant” in the tourism movies category, “Barcelone Timelapse” in the city category, “Rutas De Espana” in the regional category, “Formentor, The Sea Of Words” in the documentary category, and “Cultural Tourism In Ukraine” won in the cultural tourism category.


In the festival, “My Year 2021” stood out in tourism promotion, “Come To Bulgaria” in the tourism service category, “The King And The Sun” in television show, “Budapest Mice Image Film” in the event tourism, and the special jury award was given to the short film “Blue, maybe”.


The production “Cultural Tourism In Ukraine” received the Grand Prix award.


Mohammed al Kindy will be conducting his film workshop in Nizwa on May 18, 19 and 20 with the theme, ‘How to produce a documentary.’


“What are movies? It is about sound and image. It is about human and place. Whatever you record - whether with a phone or a camera, what is important is that your film should make people want to watch it. It is understanding about how to create your movie,” said Mohammed.
