GENEVA: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has unequivocally expressed its unwavering support for Sudan in the face of ongoing challenges.

Counsellor Fahd bin Sulaiman al Kharousi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, and international organisations in Geneva, in his speech reaffirmed the GCC's complete solidarity with Sudan and called for calm, dialogue, and the restoration of stability.

The GCC countries emphasised the importance of unity, wisdom, and engaging in peaceful dialogue to address the current situation in Sudan.

Their primary focus is to restore political stability, drive economic recovery, and promote prosperity for Sudan and its people.

Counsellor Fahd al Kharousi also acknowledged and welcomed the initial discussions taking place in Jeddah, led by Saudi Arabia and the United States, as part of a collaborative initiative.

This initiative, backed by international solidarity and efforts from Quartet countries, the tripartite mechanism, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), aims to facilitate a truce, establish a ceasefire, and enable the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid.

The GCC further welcomed any regional initiatives geared towards resolving the crisis and achieving an agreement among political forces to restore security and stability in Sudan.

The GCC countries also reiterated their commitment to preserving the cohesion of Sudan's state and institutions while supporting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

They called upon the international community to actively encourage dialogue and send messages that foster political consensus among all parties involved. The GCC stressed the importance of respecting Sudan's national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence, while acknowledging Sudan's ownership of the political process and vision for its future.

Additionally, the GCC reiterated their ongoing support for Sudan through humanitarian and relief contributions, as well as facilitating evacuations.

They commended the contributions of other countries and international organisations in providing urgent humanitarian aid. Furthermore, the GCC called for intensified efforts to provide critical humanitarian and medical assistance, aiming to meet the immediate needs of the Sudanese people and prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

Counsellor Fahd al Kharousi also highlighted the significance of the Office of the High Commissioner providing comprehensive technical support to the authorities responsible for promoting human rights in Sudan, emphasising the importance of international collaboration in achieving positive outcomes for the country. - ONA
