The 20th Students’ Forum titled ‘Digital Horizons’ opened at the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Wilayat of Manah on Monday. Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, declared open the event at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS).
Dr Said al Rubaie, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, senior UTAS officials and Dr Faisal al Zidi, Wali of Manah, attended the ceremony. Academics, dignitaries from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, and deans of UTAS branches were present.
Dr Said highlighted the University’s role in preparing students capable of investing in modern digital technologies, employing them to hone their capabilities, and providing them with future skills that will enable them to contribute to rapid developments in technology and communication.
He also emphasised the role in fuelling the spirit of competition among students and qualifying them to participate in local, regional, and international competitions. The Forum also includes fields on religion, literary, scientific, technical, and media, with more than 20 competitions branching out from these fields.
Khamis al Khusaibi, an Information Technology Specialist from UTAS Nizwa, delivered a presentation on the electronic system of the Students’ Forum of UTAS that was implemented for the first time in this year’s version. He explained about the website launched to simplify the tasks of the participants in various competitions.
Dr Said al Saqri along with the delegates and attendees listened to the outstanding participation of the students from various branches of UTAS.
The participants explained the projects and works part of the exhibition. Ibtihal al Habsi from UTAS Salalah, explained her participation in the competition with a painting expressing the Omani features through the ‘Barqa’a’ as a symbol of cover and decency in Omani culture.
Students Ahlam al Obaidani and Maithaa al Sharqi from UTAS Ibra presented a creative project titled ‘e Aitisal’. They came up with the idea of establishing an application for the alumni of UTAS who need training and job opportunities. The application displays available opportunity for graduates of UTAS branches in which they can apply, and more updates of the application e Aitisal will be implemented later.
The Forum’s opening ceremony concluded with the Hackathon programme’ Digital Horizons’.
