Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman took part on Sunday in two extraordinary ministerial sessions of the Arab League (AL) Council, held at the AL Secretariat General in Cairo, Egypt.
Oman’s delegation was headed by Mohammed Nasser al Wahaibi, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
Arab foreign ministers, who convened to discuss developments in Syria, agreed to restore the seat of Syria in the Arab League after more than 10 years of suspension.
The ministers also approved the resumption of participation of Syria’s delegation and all its affiliated organizations, as of today, and they underscored the need to implement the commitments and consensus reached at the Amman meeting.
The decision, issued at an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, reiterated the need to take practical steps to gradually resolve the Syrian crisis in line with Security Council Resolution No. 2254. The first step in this direction begins with the endorsement of measures to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to needy segments in Syria.
The meeting also discussed developments in Sudan and the Palestinian cause.
