Suhar Hospital expansion to open on Thursday

SUHAR: The Ministry of Health will open the expansion of Suhar Referral Hospital, on Thursday.


The RO 28-million project will increase the hospital’s capacity by 270 hospital beds to over 636.


The expansion project includes the emergency department which will see the addition of 68 beds, addition of 8 beds for resuscitation (adults and children), an integrated intensive care unit for adults with 17 beds, an intensive care unit for children with 16 beds, addition of 24 more incubators for the neonatal unit and 25 beds for the dialysis unit equipped with hemodialysis machines to meet the steady increase in the number of kidney failure patients.


The expansion project also involved the introduction of many surgical specialties in addition to preparation and expansion of some surgical units to provide emergency treatment and surgical services including in the cardiac catheterization unit. This is in addition to a special unit for heart care that includes two rooms equipped with the latest medical technologies.


The unit is already operational with cardiac catheterization operations successfully performed. The unit has a special post-operative ward for heart patients equipped with 22 beds in addition to special care for heart patients comprising 12 beds and two isolation rooms. The new expansion also included the addition of 33 beds to the obstetrics and gynecology department and the expansion of the delivery room.


In addition, twenty beds have been added to the day care unit to serve patients in need of temporary admission and daily operations. An MRI unit was established for the first time in the hospital.


Also added to the hospital were two CT scan devices and two TV X-rays (sonar rays) and a mammography x-ray device, a bone density device, an upper gastrointestinal endoscope, and a respiratory endoscope to ease access to accurate diagnosis and early detection of diseases. — ONA
