Muscat: The National Museum on Tuesday signed two agreements with the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The first agreement provides for organizing an exhibition and activities for “Oman Day” in the State of Palestine. The exhibition will be mobile and it will take place in accordance with schedules and venues to be agreed about later.
The second agreement provides for the establishment of a special corner for the State of Palestine in the National Museum. The venue will spotlight the history, civilization and Palestinian cause. It will also document bilateral relations between Oman and Palestine over various historical epochs and in the present time.
The two agreements were signed by Jamal Hassan al Musawi, Secretary General of the National Museum and Rula Maayah, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of the State of Palestine.
Al Musawi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the museum seeks to underline the historical and moral significance of exhibitions it holds in reviving the centuries-old relations between the two countries.
The museum is a step forward in cementing ties of cooperation, underscores Oman’s heritage and its active participation in regional and international events, he added.
Al Musawi pointed out that the establishment of a corner for the State of Palestine in the National Museum will introduce the visitors to the cultural heritage of Palestine throughout the ages and affirms the museum’s policies aimed at enhancing expertise and expanding cooperation between the two sides.
On her turn, Rola Maayah told ONA that the two agreements would enhance cooperation between the State of Palestine and the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of tourism and cultural heritage.
She stressed that the strength of bilateral relations and valued Oman’s support for the State of Palestinian and its people.
The National Museum also launched exhibits about the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. The exhibits include a model of the Dome of the Rock, given as a present by the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1989, as well as a round painting of the Dome of the Rock, given as a present by the Palestinian President to Sultan Qaboos in 2001.
