Plans unveiled to enhance visitor experience at Jabal Akhdar

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has granted a license to operate a heritage lodge in the Al-Suwjara village of Jabal Akhdar


MHT has undertaken works to rehabilitate the path leading to the village, which is expected to be completed in November.

Suwjara village is an old village and is estimated to be more than 450 years old. It rises about 1,900 m above sea level and is characterized by its mild climate in summer and winter. Its population does not exceed 60 people.

In order to enhance the concept of tourism experiences, the Ministry is focusing on creating unique tourism products as the expectations of destinations have changed for tourists in many markets, according to the reports of the World Tourism Organization.

The lodge includes 11 rooms and food service provided by the people of the region, especially Omani meals that suit the taste of the tourists and will provide a source of income for the owners of small and medium enterprises.


The development project for the area, which will include seating areas, viewing platforms, and information panels, has been completed by 75 percent as 450 out of 500 meters of the road has been paved. The information panels will help enhance the visitor's experience in identifying some perennial trees.
