Labour ministry plans to provide 35,000 jobs

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour plans to provide 35,000 job opportunities this year of which 14,000 will be delivered via replacement in the private sector and 10,000 through replacement and employment in the public sector.


This is in addition to 2,000 job opportunities generated by initiatives overseen by government authorities and units.


This was stated by Dr. Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour at the annual news conference of the Ministry of Labour held on Tuesday.


The number of opportunities generated during the past year amounted to 45,026 from direct employment, replacement, and work-related training. A total of 13,453 people have availed of the job security system in various governorates, the minister said.


The minister of labor affirmed that 57,092 nationals landed jobs including 35,377 people who were previously employed by means of job rotation, the minister said.


The ministry plans to develop human capital and enhance its capabilities in the units of the state’s administrative apparatus.


Besides, the ministry is working on an integrated national system that aims to build national capabilities and manage talents.


This year the ministry has a number of programs and plans that include implementing the national workforce employment strategy that falls under the national employment policy, promoting and developing labour market policies and the job localization mechanism.
