Just as a few more days are left for the holy month of Ramadhan, the believers, and social workers are busy distributing iftar meals to the needy, passersby, and low-income groups daily and without losing the momentum that they built up since the beginning of the holy month.
The evening meal distribution has been a boon for those who cannot reach their residences before the call for maghrib prayers and a sight of unity and harmony where everyone felt the hunger and experienced the first touch of water quenching their day-long hunger pangs every day.
By around five in the evening, those who need iftar meals would gather in front of the business houses that have daily plans of distribution and some of them would assign themselves as a volunteer to help smooth the distribution of the meals.
"It has been a wonderful journey since we embarked upon our annual iftar meal distribution campaign where we helped 50 people break their fast with a bundle of refreshments," said the representatives of Mustafa Sultan Exchange and Instant Cash Money Transfer who were engaged in the activity on a daily basis.
As most of the mosques haven't resumed daily social iftars this year in a row, such iftar meals proved to be a respite as restaurants would open close to the fast-breaking time.
"Our iftar tent, the only tent in Ruwi, has been catering to nearly 700 people every day and the demand has been in ever-increasing mode, but since we have to adhere to safety precautions, we stuck to the capacity of the tent," Najeeb, country manager of Malabar Gold and Diamonds which has been successfully operating the only iftar tent in Ruwi, said.
The blue-collar workers who have been engaged in manual labour or those who work in shifts digging and asphalting the roads, tunnels, bridges and other construction works sometimes fail to get their iftar meal on time as they need to be prepared and transported to the various sites across the city. For them, the distribution channels operated by corporates have been a soothing experience as they look forward to those who bring them the dates and laban to break their fast.
"I rely upon the meals distributed by social workers or corporates as the case may be so that a delicious iftar is assured to break my day-long fast," a worker from the Indian state of Madhyapradesh admitted.
