In the holy Quran, it is said that there is a night which is more powerful than 1,000 nights and believers from different ethnic origins throng the mosques during the last phase of the holy month seeking the ‘Lailatul Qadr’ which is described as the ‘the promised night’ or the ‘most powerful night’.

Mosques across the country are alive with the recitation of the holy Quran, keeping believers busy engaged in supplications, and prostration towards the Almighty expressing repentance for the shortcomings and seeking a position aloft on the day of judgment.

It is the same night that has the greatest rewards for all good deeds and the night the holy Quran was sent down to mankind, during one of the nights of the last ten days of Ramadhan.

“The holy Quran was sent down to mankind during one of these nights with more probability for the 27th night, and believers keep themselves busy engaging in prayers, supplications, and other deeds such as ‘zakath’ and Sadaqa which are two forms of supporting the fellow beings during the last phase of the holy month which is about to leave,” said Hatim Abdussalam, a religious scholar and Director of Al Istiqama TV.

The long prayer usually held in the later part of the night is called ‘Qiyamul Lail’ which can be prayed either individually or as a group and implicates standing supplications which is a part of the last ten days of the holy month.

Almighty Allah has said in the holy Quran that there is a night in the odd nights of the holy month which is more powerful than 1,000 nights and it is the night when the holy Quran, the guiding book for the entire mankind, is sent down to the people.

While the first 10 days of the holy month are dedicated to gaining Mercy of Allah, the second part reflects the Forgiveness of Allah and the Third part reflects Safety from Hell. Prophet Muhammad (May Peace Be Upon Him) said: Ramadhan is the month, whose beginning is mercy, its middle, forgiveness and its end, emancipation from the fire (of hell).

As far as the believers are concerned, these special days and nights will be followed by the preparations for Eid al Fitr after nearly thirty days of fasting.

Believers continue to engage themselves in such supplications, special prayers and mandatory fasting till the moon is sighted for the beginning of the month of ‘Shawwal’ heralding the arrival of Eid al Fitr the next day.
