Hiking in Oman can be challenging, especially during the summer months when temperatures can soar to over 40°C. However, with the right preparation, it’s still possible to enjoy the trails even in the hottest months.

For hardcore hikers who don’t mind the hot temperature during the summer, here are key things to remember.

Start early: The best time to hike in Oman is early in the morning before the heat of the day sets in. Plan to start your hike at sunrise and finish before noon.

Stay hydrated: Make sure to carry plenty of water with you and drink regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Wear appropriate clothing: Choose lightweight, breathable clothing that covers your skin to protect you from the sun. Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the sun’s rays.

Take breaks: If you start feeling overheated, take a break in the shade and rest until you feel better.

As we are nearing summer, the best option is usually to go on a night hike. With the sun gone and the stars shining bright, the city transforms into a different world altogether. For those who want a leisurely walk, Muscat itself has multiple options for night hikes.
