MUSCAT: An Omani youth has launched a mobile application for the Holy Quran.

The mobile app by Mohammed bin Ali al Maamari, a resident of Kahanat, in the Wilayat of Ibri, has become an instant hit with thousands of downloads in a few days.

The app which can be downloaded from http://quran.ksu.edu.sa/m took nearly three years to complete, according to Mohammed.

"It took nearly three years of research and hands-on work, at least 6 hours a day with no breaks on weekends to complete the Holy Quran that you see now on your phone," said Al Maamari.

All the 114 Suras of the Holy Quran are compiled in 604 pages, which can be easily flipped through, and one can listen to the whole book in the voice of nearly 50 globally acclaimed reciters.

They include Abdul Rahman al Sudais, Saad al Ghamdi, Saud al Shuraim, Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad, Maher al Mu'aiqly, Mishary bin Rashid Alafasy, Muhammad Siddiq al Minshawy, Ahmad bin Ali al Ajmi, Mahmoud Khalil al Hussary, Ali ibn Abdur Rahman al Hudhaify, Qari Syed Sadaqat Ali, Abdullah Awad al Juhany, Salah al Budair, Yasser al Dosari, to Waheed Zafar Qasmi.

"The app offers complete Holy Quran with its interpretation in all 604 pages by touching the screen from left to right," Al Maamari said.

This one of its kind app, which the Sultanate of Oman can be proud of hosting, facilitates voice activation as well as the translation/meaning in English below it.

"There is nothing more precious than a gift and sharing the Holy Quran is considered to be one of the best 'Sadaqa' (voluntary charity) deeds in the holy month of Ramadhan. Do not leave a relative, friend, or anyone you know without sharing the link of this Holy Quran app, as I have made great efforts in preparing it," said Al Maamari.
