MUSCAT: Under the auspices of Tahir bin Salem al Amri, CEO of Central Bank of Oman, the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) celebrated the launch of its new website, logo and visual identity. The event was held at the City Season Hotel in the presence of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, OBA Chairman, and club officials and basketball fraternity.

The ceremony began with a film showing footage of the OBA’s activities, including competitions and championships and a review of the Senior, Junior and Youth Leagues. The film also highlighted the participation of national teams and sports clubs in various tournaments, including the West Asian Championships.

Dr Ali bin Salam al Yarubi, OBA Vice-Chairman, delivered a speech outlining the clear plan of the board of directors to develop the game. This includes creating a new logo and visual identity that reflects the sporting and Omani identity of the OBA and opens a point of communication with fans and external partners of the association.

The new logo consists of a set of colours and symbols that carry certain connotations, and through which the new visual identity adopted by the Oman Basketball Association can be identified. The letter (O) reflects the word Oman in the English language and also represents the basketball hoop. The second symbol represents the letter (B) on the word basketball in the English language and embodies the number (3) in the game of basketball trios. The letter (A) embodies the word ‘Association’ and represents the word ‘Action’, reflecting the continuous collective movement, strength, activity, excitement and enthusiasm of the game of basketball. The red, white, and green colours reflect the Omani identity that distinguishes the country at the regional and international levels, Al Yarubi explained.

The OBA has also launched a website to facilitate the work tasks of its main partners, including clubs and provide a broader digital station to obtain data and forms for registering players electronically, thus reducing the inconvenience of coming to a building during official working hours only. The website provides many services to partners, including registering club players throughout the day during the specified registration period and knowing the status of each player, viewing the results of matches directly by linking the website and social media channels and reviewing the most important competitions and events supervised by the OBA.

During the ceremony, chief guest Taher al Omari pressed the inauguration button of the new logo, signalling the launch of the new visual identity of the Oman Basketball Association. The audience also watched a presentation of the old logo and the transition to the new logo of the federation. Then he pressed the launch button of the OBA’s website, announcing the launch of the website via the Internet.

In conclusion, Eng Khalfan al Naabi, presented a souvenir to the chief guest. The launch of the new website, logo and visual identity represents a significant step forward for the Oman Basketball Association as it continues to develop the game in Oman.
