Omani, US firms sign pact to support wastewater management

Muscat Projects and Environmental Services LLC (MPES), a leading Omani water and wastewater treatment services company which provides service to public sector organisations such as Oman Water & Wastewater Services Co (OWWSC), Royal Oman Police (ROP) and PDO besides many private organisations, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with US-based Gradient International Overseas Pte, a global leader in the field of industrial wastewater treatment. Through this partnership, the companies aim to leverage the increasing global demand for wastewater treatment services.


Gradient was founded in 2013 by Anurag Bajpai and Prakash Govindan, PhD holders in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA with an objective to offer wastewater treatment through sustainable and cost-effective methods. What began as a start-up is now counted among the world’s leading companies offering the most innovative and cutting edge solutions to water scarcity challenges posed by industrialisation, population growth and climate change.


Gradient's global headquarters is in Boston, USA. The company’s global innovation centre is in Singapore and it has offices in 14 countries.


One of the earliest entrepreneurs in Oman, MPES, the brainchild of EM Badhrudeen founded in 2008, has now grown into a 400-employee business establishment to be the nation’s leading wastewater treatment firms. With a team of experienced staff, the company's provides design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and operation of sewage treatment plants across the country.


“We hope that through cooperation with Gradient, we can expand our field of operation to West Asian countries besides the governorates of Oman,” EM Badhrudeen, MPES Managing Director told the Observer.


He added that the future activities of the company will contribute to Oman's efforts in combating global warming and adopt environmentally friendly initiatives in key sectors in the Sultanate.
