Built in the traditional Omani style of architecture, the Royal Opera House Muscat is a breathtaking masterpiece of design and engineering. Its white façade is adorned with intricate arabesque patterns and features a grand entrance that leads visitors into the main auditorium. Inside, the opulent decor, exquisite chandeliers, and plush seating create an ambiance of elegance and grandeur that is unmatched by any other venue in the region.
The story of the Royal Opera House Muscat began in 2001 when His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said envisioned creating a cultural center that would showcase Oman's vibrant arts and music scene. A decade later, this dream was realized, as the doors of the Royal Opera House Muscat opened to the public for the first time.
Nestled in the heart of the Sultanate of Oman, the Royal Opera House Muscat stands tall as a beacon of architectural excellence, cultural heritage and artistic brilliance. This majestic venue, opened in 2011, is an ode to the country's rich history and legacy, and has quickly become a must-visit destination for tourists and locals alike.
In the first quarter of this year, ROHM opened the temporary exhibition at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts.
‘ROHM Through Omani Eyes’ is a stunning photographic celebration of the Royal Opera House Muscat, acknowledging the contribution of the artists who influenced the design and the photographers who have captured its beauty over the last decade.
The exhibition honours the architectural beauty of Muscat’s thriving cultural centre and describes the history of the opera house to this day.
Visitors to the exhibition were welcomed into the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts to enjoy a beautifully curated experience. The exhibition begins with a reflection on the building programmes and inauguration of the Royal Opera House Muscat and the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts, before celebrating some of the designers who influenced the aesthetics. In the next section, special works by guest photographers taken of the outside of the buildings are displayed. An audio-visual room then offers greater context to the architectural detailing of both buildings. Finally, the images of two of Oman’s most well-known artists, H.E Mohammed Al Zubair and resident photographer Khalid Al Busaidi, who have had unparalleled access to the opera house over the last decade, are celebrated with a gallery of their works from ROHM productions and the interior of the buildings.
Held from February 20 until March 20, the event showcased what a true gem of Oman's cultural landscape ROHM is, offering visitors a glimpse into the country's rich heritage and artistic traditions.
