Muscat: Haze continues in parts of Oman, but there are rain clouds over Musandam due to upper wave/clouds advection.

Humidity has been higher on Thursday and the weather forecaster at Oman Met Office explained this is because of the Easterly winds.

Cumulus clouds activity continues today in parts of the Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas, with chances of scattered rain, sometimes with thunder, accompanied by active downwind during the afternoon.

Oman Met Office said there are opportunities for dust to rise in the desert and exposed areas due to the movement of active winds and during the formation of thunderstorms.

The aerial picture showed the spread of dust over the areas overlooking the coasts of the Sea of Oman, with the condensation of low clouds over parts of the governorates of Al Wusta, Dhofar and South Al Sharqiyah.

The weather forecaster of Oman Met Office explained that this is the result of the thunderstorm in Al Wusta which had a strong downdraft.

“The advected dust of Al Wusta was prevalent yesterday, we still have some of it today as it is hazy and by tomorrow it should clear away,” he said.

The weather forecast for Thursday is clear to partly cloudy skies over most of the governorates with high and medium clouds advections with chance of isolated rain occasionally thundershower over parts of Dhofar, Al Wusta and Al Dhahira governorates. Chance of cloud development and isolated thundershower associated with downdraft wind over Al Hajar Mountains and its adjoining area tomorrow.

There are chances for low-level clouds or fog patches at late night or early morning over parts of South Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta governorates and possibilities for dust rising over desert and open areas due to strong winds.

Winds are expected to be variable and light along Oman Sea coast at night, and it is expected to change to northeasterly light to moderate. While over most of the governorates winds will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate and fresh along Arabian Sea coasts.

Sea state is expected to be slight along most of the coasts with a maximum wave height of 1.25 meter and slight to moderate along Oman Sea coasts with maximum wave height of 1.5 meter

Meanwhile, horizontal visibility might reduce during rain, fog formation and dust rising.
