Muscat Municipality launched a campaign to combat Aedes Aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito responsible for spreading dengue fever. The campaign began on Wednesday and continues until April 22 in the targeted areas.
The targeted areas are the southern Mabela (industrial area and the surrounding residential area), the northern Ghubra area in the Wilayat of Bausher, Ruwi and Al Hamriya in the Wilayat of Muttrah; and Al Athaiba and Ghala in the Wilayat of Bausher.
The municipality has asked people to stay away from the sites where pesticide spray has been done for 10 to 15 minutes after the spray.
"Cover open food and utensils before spraying, wash utensils and cooking tools used after the spray, remove pets and keep children away from the site to be sprayed, and close windows and doors. Even don't allow anyone to enter the house during the spray period," the municipality sources said.
The municipality campaign to combat Aedes Aegypti was launched last year by the General Directorate of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, in cooperation with the Muscat Municipality and the relevant authorities. This comes within the framework of an effective partnership to raise environmental sanitation efforts and combat the spread of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
In the Governorate of Muscat, cases of dengue fever, which is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, have been recorded. It necessitated the campaign to combat and eradicate the mosquito and eliminate it and its breeding sites.
To avoid the breeding of Aedes Aegypti, residents and citizens should maintain cleanliness, and remove solid waste and all forms of water pools around residential areas. Water tanks should be tightly covered and used tires, empty cans, containers and utensils etc should be removed.
The community must interact with those in charge of the campaign, raise the awareness of community members, and cooperate for the success of the campaign and the elimination of its breeding grounds in the governorate.
