Unique photo exhibition of religious architecture opens

A unique collection of photos titled ‘Religious Architecture, Geometry and the Spiritual Meaning’ clicked by Mohammed al Zubair was unveiled under the auspices of Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan al Ma’amari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs at the Bait Al Zubair Museum on Monday evening.


Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansoor al Hasani, Malik bin Sulaiman al Ma’amari, artists and art lovers from the country and beyond were present.


Religious Architecture, also known as sacred architecture or sacral architecture, implies to the practice of recreating religious architectural concerned with the design and construction of places of worship or sacred or intentional space, such as mosques, churches, temples, stupas and synagogues.


Mohammed al Zubair’s religious architectural photos are the characteristics of grandiosity, spatial hierarchy, design intricacy, iconography, and natural building elements which remain common to all religious buildings.


A vibrant play of light and shadows is a significant element that enhances the spirituality factor of design in almost all the photos that were clicked over many decades of his love with photography.


In his address, Mohammed al Zubair said, “In his diligent search for truth in the unseen and beyond, human kind expressed his love for his creator in inscriptions, he raised his aspiration for the sky on the pillars of temples and sounds of minarets, and illuminated the path to tranquillity with lights sticking to the walls in various places of mosques and temples.”


The collection of photos is an attempt to replicate the religious architecture which incorporates various design elements and sacred symbols. The world over, some features are incorporated to address the requirements of religious ceremonies, while other elements are used to enhance the religious experience of worshipers.


The forms of architectural spiritual expression have varied and multiplied with the diversity of the laws, methods, approaches and paths taken by humanity.
