MUSCAT: Dr Mahmoud bin Nasser al Rahbi, Senior Consultant - Emergency Medicine and Head of the Emergency Department at Al Nahda Hospital, has become the first Omani doctor to have been awarded the title of 'International Examiner' by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) in the United Kingdom.

Dr Al Rahbi will be conducting the final examination in the college fellowship programme in Malaysia over a period of 5 consecutive days, with 32 male and female doctors per day, and the examinations include all skills and standards related to emergency medicine, conducted as part of the Royal College's international examination centres in several countries.

"It is (having appointed as the examiner of RCEM) indeed a privilege to be the examiner with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine UK representing the Sultanate of Oman," Dr Al Rahbi said.

Dr Al Rahbi completed his course in Emergency Medicine from the RCEM in the United Kingdom in the year 2007, and he is awarded the title of 'International Examiner' in the same college, and became the first Omani to be selected for such examinations.

The RCEM is responsible for setting standards of training and administering examinations in Emergency Medicine for the award of fellowship and membership of the college as well as recommending trainees for CCT in Emergency Medicine.

As for the Royal College exams, Dr Al Rahbi explained, "The exams are divided into membership and fellowship. With regard to membership, a person must pass two exams before attending the final exam."
