Ramadhan comes once a year, but its impact on a person is so high that he carries its positivity for years or even for life by adopting some good habits and getting rid of bad ones.
People aspire to do good deeds, they aspire to inculcate good habits and try to quit some bad habits like smoking, laziness and even being unnecessarily angry. They tend to postpone their resolutions unless things come to a pass.
Ramadhan is a source of inspiration to be better people and do as much as possible to better society. Many resolve to eat less meat, take care of their health, give proper care to family, and be ready for any voluntary service.
During Ramadhan, the atmosphere is charged with so much positivity that people tend to quit bad habits and inculcate good ones. In most cases, a year of postponement actualises during Ramadhan.
“It worked like magic when I decided to quit smoking soon after the beginning of Ramadhan this year, and I am successful,” said Ibrahim, who works in a private sector establishment.
“Since I decided to quit, I did not touch them even after breaking my fast in the evening. This is the beauty of the holy month of Ramadhan; if you want to quit some bad habits, it becomes easy to stick to your commitment,” he said, wand added that he would quit smoking permanently.
He admits his parents are very happy about this decision, as they were worried about his health and the consequences of smoking.
The same is the case with Abdullah, who has the tendency of becoming short-tempered. Despite realising his bad trait, he was not able to control it. This Ramadhan he decided to do a makeover and started controlling his anger by becoming compassionate and generous to people. “I decided to sport a smile whenever I meet people and avoid any situation that could lead to an argument, and by the grace of God, I am successful till now,” he said.
“I have taken a resolve to be cool and calm and would react only after proper thinking. And surprisingly, I am managing my tempers well. Earlier I used to get irritated easily, and I was not welcomed in a team. Friends would tease me to get my bad reaction and make fun of me. I thank my sister who advised me to take resolve to become cool and calm and thanks to God, it is happening,” he admitted.
Bringing a change in lifestyle is everybody’s challenge. Not an easy task to make resolve to control diet, spare time to do some physical activity and stay fit to avoid diseases.
“Everyone wants to get rid of obesity without doing any exercise or any control over food. This Ramadhan I decided to have full control over my food and go for a walk after dinner. I am feeling good and have decided to continue with this even after Ramadhan,” says Maryam who feels she is inviting health issues due to her bad lifestyle.
Ramadhan thus is a time for deep reflection that connects an individual with his spiritual roots. The resolutions achieved during Ramadhan continue for several years and even for life in most cases.
