Unfazed by the recent earthquakes that shattered the economy, the Syrian Arab Republic is inviting more investors from across the region, with special emphasis on the Sultanate of Oman, within the framework of government directives regarding strengthening economic and investment cooperation with Oman.
Syria has sought to upgrade economic relations to reach the level of solid political relations, and to benefit from the capabilities and opportunities available in the two countries to achieve more economic and investment integration.
“We are glad to inform that Omani businessmen wishing to invest in the Syrian Arab Republic can obtain the visas required to enter the country directly from the border posts upon their arrival at the borders, after submitting the necessary documents in those centers,” a spokesperson from the Embassy of Syria told the Observer.
Accordingly, any investor from the Sultanate can get a visit or multiple entry visa to Syria based on their document submission and purpose of visit and they are free to make any investments there. With this aim, the two countries formed the Syrian-Omani Business Council last year.
“We are working with the Sultanate to develop bilateral economic relations, and in this regard, we have formed the Syrian-Omani Business council at the initiative of Mohammad Samer al Khalil, Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade.
The establishment of the council aims to enhance the role of the private sector and benefit from its capabilities in developing economic relations between Syria and the sultanate in trade, investment, industry, agriculture and tourism.
Syria had expressed its willingness to expand cooperation with the sultanate in the industrial sector by entering new investments, especially in cement manufacturing as Syria needed it for its reconstruction phase at the 4th Cement Conference 2022 held in Damascus and underlined the necessity of the two sides bolstering industrial and commercial cooperation and export of industrial products produced by small enterprises in Syria to Oman.
