Muscat: The Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate issued on Sunday a clarification after a tweet by the Directorate on seizing crops of cantaloupe and watermelon at one of the farms in South Al Sharqiyah went viral on various social media platforms.
The directorate came up with this clarification after it took samples of various agricultural crops from several farms, including cantaloupe and melon products, to test at the Ministry’s laboratory.
According to the laboratory’s findings, all samples confirmed they are safe and suitable for human consumption.
The directorate stated that one sample of the hot pepper taken from a certain farm, was found having residual pesticides.
Accordingly, the product was kept inside the farm to complete the legal procedures.
Meanwhile, the Directorate urged farmers to follow up on the workers working on their farms and to hold them fully responsible in the event of violations.
