Fak Kurba, a humanitarian initiative that aims to secure the release of those who are caught up in minor financial offences and help them resume a better life, aims to release 1,300 people this year.
Speaking to Oman Observer, Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Head of the Fak Kurba initiative, said, “the initiative comes under the slogan ‘Because we believe that a person deserves a second chance’ and aims to collect financial donations to release the insolvent in prisons due to claims arising from different financial cases.”
“We are aiming at more than 1,300 individuals who are caught up in minor financial cases but were jailed or are about to be jailed, and the release will be made possible with donations from individuals, corporates and the like,” he added.
The initiative, which helps both citizens and expatriates, is currently in its 10th edition and has so far released more than 4,969 persons who met the conditions. “The tenth edition of the humanitarian initiative is designed within the framework of community synergy, and one can support the mission through its bank account, its website and through Thawani Pay,” Dr Zadjali said.
The 10th edition of the Fak Kurba initiative will continue until mid-April 2023, and the Lawyers Association is looking forward to transforming the humanitarian initiative into a sustainable project that works throughout the year through its own administrative staff, Dr Zadjali said. One can log on to the initiative’s website www.fakkrba.om and the initiative’s bank account.
Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Vice-President of the Supreme Judicial Council, said, “We are aiming at relieving humanity of distress for the year 2023, which is adopted by the Omani Lawyers Association, in commitment to divine wisdom, and following the example of the Holy Prophet in extending his oath, and based on synergy and cohesion that characterises the pure Omani soil and the generosity, benevolence and good character of its people.”
“The public can be partners in supporting the society and offer to relieve the distress of our brothers and sisters, because a person always deserves a second chance,” he added.
During its humanitarian journey, which began in 2012 until now, Fak Kurba also contributed to promoting the values of solidarity between individuals and groups and activating the role of institutional partnership and social responsibility between institutions and companies.
