Muscat: As rains and thunderstorms continue across the governorates, Wilayat Al Hamra gets the highest rainfall so far.
The Oman Met Office said a number of wilayats in the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah are witnessing rains of varying intensity that lead to the flow of valleys and reefs.
“Therefore, please pay attention and take caution,” said the Met Office.
In a statement to Oman News Agency, Jaifar bin Hamad Al Busaidi, weather forecaster at Civil Aviation Authority, said: "The Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliya Governorate has recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 28 mm so far, followed by Saiq in the Wilayat of Jabal al Akhdar with 9.4 mm and 9mm in wilayats of Bukha and Izki".
More amounts of rains are expected to be recorded in the afternoon, especially with active formations that the Sultanate might experience in the next few hours, he added.
Thunderstorms cells activity continue to prevail over the governorates of Musandam, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah. North al Batinah, South al Batinah and Muscat. Rains with fresh downdraft wind are expected across the governorates especially Al Wusta, South Sharqiyah and Al Hajr Mountains as per the concentration of the clouds.
Meanwhile, some wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah are witnessing moderate to heavy rains, and activity of thunder cells over Al Buraimi (Mahda) and towards the north of Al Batinah (Suwaiq), with clouds continuing to form on the Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas, on the coasts of Muscat Governorate, and on the south of Al Sharqiyah, and the flow of clouds over Al Wusta and Dhofar
The weather alert period is up to Wednesday. The public have been requested to stay away from low lying areas and from crossing wadis.
Following this weather the north westerly wind is expected for three days.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, rainy thunder cells moved northeast towards (Al-Khaboura and Saham) north of Al-Batinah, and the rainy thunder cell moved from Izki and Nizwa towards (Qurayyat, Dama, Al-Tayyin and Ibra) with chances of thunderstorms.
Clouds had formed over the Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas and desert areas with chances of scattered rain.
