The Sultan Qaboos Mosque in the Wilayat of Shinas has become a prominent landmark in the state since its opening in 2018. As a religious, cultural, and tourist landmark, the mosque serves impressive features that make it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.

Shinas is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Muscat and is known for its agriculture and farming.

The mosque is considered one of the most important features in the state, and a distinct architectural masterpiece added to the series of mosques of the late Sultan Qaboos, which he ordered to be built at his own expense in all the wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman to enhance the religious and spiritual aspects of citizens and residents of the country.

The Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Shinas features a main prayer hall that can accommodate 2,592 worshipers and a women's prayer hall that can accommodate 357 worshipers. It also houses a public library, several classrooms, and administration and maintenance offices. The surrounding area includes well-manicured landscaping, green spaces, external works, and ample parking.

Mohammed al Balushi expressed admiration for the mosque. "It's truly a sight to behold. The grandeur and beauty of the mosque are simply breathtaking. It always leaves me feeling more peaceful and centred. The library and classrooms are a great resource for the community as well," he said.

The mosque has nine chandeliers, including a massive centrepiece containing 500 luminous candles. The centrepiece is eight metres tall and weighs three tonnes. The mosque's carpet is equally impressive, featuring seven colours that complement its various decorations, inscriptions, and interior colours. The mosque stands at a towering height of 35.6 metres, with a diameter of 24,561 metres. It is topped by two minarets that reach a height of 48 metres.

A regular visitor to the mosque, Yousif Ali, a resident of Shinas, highlighted the cultural significance of the mosque. He stated, "The mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a centre for cultural and educational activities. It's great to see a religious institution that is so inclusive and welcoming to all.”

As one of the most important architectural masterpieces of late Sultan Qaboos, the mosque serves not only as a religious sanctuary but also as a hub for cultural and educational activities. It hosts religious lessons, lectures, seminars, and cultural events in its halls and fully equipped library.
