MUSCAT: The inflation rate of consumer prices in the Sultanate of Oman during the month of February 2023 was about 1.93%, according to the monthly survey of consumer prices published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data showed an increase in the prices of the following main commodity groups in February 2023 compared to the same month of 2022: food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.08%), furniture, fixtures, household equipment and routine home maintenance group (3.83%), restaurants and hotels group (3.79%), culture and entertainment group (2.08%), miscellaneous goods and services (1.61%), health group (1.23%), clothing and footwear group (1.02%), transportation group (0.77%), education group (0.05%), and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group (0.03%). However, the communication group showed a decrease of 0.15%, while the tobacco group dipped 0.02%.
Price indices within the food and non-alcoholic beverages group also showed an uptick during the period under review: the oil and fats price index (19.57%), fish and seafood (12%), milk, cheese and eggs (10.11%), non-alcoholic beverages (5.23%), and bread and cereals (5.04%).
The prices of meat increased by 4.29%, other foodstuffs by 4.25%, sugar, jam, honey and sweets by 3.22%, and fruits by 2.74%. The vegetables group however showed a decrease of 4.95%.
The Governorate of Al Buraimi witnessed the highest rate of inflation at 2.93%, followed by the Governorate of Al Dhahirah at 2.21%, Governorate of Muscat at 2.12%, Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah at 2.04%, Governorate of Dhofar at 2.03%, and North and South Sharqiyah at 1.65 and 1.37% respectively. — ONA
