Muscat Municipality has announced the readiness of slaughterhouses and the central market for vegetables and fruits for Ramadhan. There has been a schedule to receive individuals and companies during the holy month.
The municipality has noted the importance of slaughtering in slaughterhouses. The working hours in slaughterhouses during the month of Ramadhan will be in the morning period for seven hours divided into two periods, the first period for companies from six in the morning until eight in the morning, and the second period for individuals from eight in the morning until one in the evening.
Also, to speed up slaughtering operations, and to facilitate the public, Muscat Municipality indicated the possibility of using the livestock application, to obtain ready-made carcasses through reservation through the application, and it contains several options for choosing livestock, and carcasses can be reserved through it.
The civic body also confirmed the technical, health and supervisory readiness of the central market, vegetables and fruits, and ensured the availability of local and imported crops and products.
The market is ready with plans to ensure food safety. The operators have been told to be careful with food storage and adherence to health requirements and preventive measures, as the working hours in the market were set to ensure smooth flow.
There is stress on the proper movement of vegetables and fruits safely and hygienically. Traders in the central market for vegetables and fruits have been urged to increase and intensify direct imports from the countries of origin and coordinate with the Omani Farmers Association to ensure the availability of local products such as watermelon and melons in quantities that meet the growing and expected demand for vegetables and fruits in particular and of all kinds, which consumers are usually keen to acquire and have on their tables during the holy month.
Sultan al Abri, Head of the Omani Agricultural Society, said that generally, prices were stable, but there was a slight increase in some items, due to the source of their import. The companies have begun their preparation for this season by increasing the number of shipments in the market to meet demand.
Between February 16 and March 16, some 1,005 trucks loaded with a total of 201,00 tonnes of vegetables and fruits entered the market.
