The National Employment Programme has signed two cooperation agreements with research and wholesale market platforms to support and develop the economy of independent businesses and promote the culture of freelancing in the Sultanate of Oman. This cooperation comes as part of the programme's efforts to support freelancers and enhance digital transformation across this emerging ecosystem.

The first agreement was signed with ‘Bahthi’, a platform that specializes in supporting scientific research and providing job opportunities for specialists in this field. The second pact was signed with ‘Souq Al-Jamila’, a platform that connects Omani farmers with consumers.

The two MoUs were signed by Eng Azhar bin Ahmed al Kindi, Technical Director of the National Employment Programme, with Mohammed bin Khalfan al Saadi, CEO of Bahthi, and Majid bin Sultani al Abri, CEO of Souq Al-Jamila platform.

In remarks, Eng Al Kindi said the MoUs are part of a broad effort to promote the culture of freelancing and the growth of the entrepreneurial economy system in which technology is increasingly playing a role. The pacts will contribute to supporting entrepreneurial initiatives developed by Omani youth, thereby driving digital transformation goals in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Mohammed al Saadi of Bahthi said the platform is underpinned by modern technology that supports scientific research and provides job opportunities for freelancers who are graduates with a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree. It enables researchers and research assistants to come together, alongside experts and specialists with research centers and public and private sector institutions, to undertake scientific studies and research projects.

Majid bin Sultan al Abri, CEO of Souq Al Jamila, is an online app that seeks to enhance food security in the Sultanate of Oman by enabling Omani farmers to access digital tools to connect with consumers, thereby earning competitive prices for their high quality produce. Additionally, the platform will also open up revenue earning and job opportunities for Omani transporters who can deliver booked orders to homes and institutions through the platform. Other service providers will benefit as well.
