Collective action of various societal arms and consolidation of social cooperation for the benefit of the society is of paramount importance, according to His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, who is also the founder of the Imam Jabir Bin Zaid Waqf Foundation (JBZF).
Speaking ahead of the 2nd Waqf (Endowments) Forum on Sunday, at Sheraton Muscat, he said a kind gesture for the less privileged in the society, a charity or any support to those who deserve is a great deed, the best of them is the one which lasts even after one is no more on earth.
“While spiritual spending (Infaq) for the sake of the Almighty Allah is deemed one of the tasks that bring one closer to Allah, the best Infaq is the type of endowment that lasts even after one passes away,” His Eminence said.
The 2nd Waqf Forum is organised by Jabir Bin Zaid Waqf Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs aiming to empower the role of Waqf foundations in the Sultanate of Oman, and in alignment with its vision to encourage Islamic Awqaf (endowments) and develop the endowments sector contributing to the economic growth and social welfare in the country.
Waqf, the Omani Endowment Partnership portal, aims to enhance the concept of community-based endowment service and offer digitised solutions to streamline the process of humanitarian donation and will spearhead the activities of donations made through the Omani endowment organisations.
The forum will be held under the auspices of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, the head of Oman Investment Authority, in the presence of a host of industry experts and representatives from the public and private sectors.
The one day brainstorming sessions will focus on key topics related to Islamic endowments, including activating the partnership between endowment foundations, the mechanism of managing endowment foundations, and adopting the best practices to organise Awqaf in the country, as well as assessing the regulatory and framework of Waqf investments and its related challenges, at a time when Awqaf sector in the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing rapid progress, thanks to the efforts made by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs to broaden the role of community participation in developing endowments in accordance with specific governance and controls.
There will be specific workshops and other debates and discussions led by stalwarts in Awqaf focusing primarily on the areas of governance of endowment foundation, feasibility studies for endowment investment projects, and promotion of endowment across the country and programmes to encourage Awqaf in the country.
