Muscat: The number of fire cases reported in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman was 4,186 in 2022, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), an increase of three percent from 2021.
Muscat Governorate topped the list with 1,307 fire incidents, North Al Batinah Governorate (949), Al Dakhiliyah (435), South al Batinah (367), Dhofar (349), South al Sharqiyah (235), Al-Dhahirah (180), North al Sharqiyah (177), Buraimi Governorate (109), Musandam (40) and Al Wusta 38 fire incidents.
According to sources in the Civil Defense Authority (CDAA), fire-related cases generally increase during summer, which not controlled in time can lead to a loss of human life and properties. One of the main reasons is the failure to maintain and update fire safety equipment.
The causes of vehicle fires have been due to neglect and lack of seriousness while maintaining the vehicle at regular intervals, especially the presence of enough water in the coolant can reduce the occurrence of such fire incidents.
To avoid electricity-related fires and their dangers, according to CDAA home residents should follow preventive measures by avoiding touching the devices with wet hands, tampering with the devices, and trying self-repairs as these should be left to competent persons.
