Muscat: Majlis Ash'shura on Tuesday discussed the draft labour law referred by the government.
The Council’s 8th regular session of the 4th annual sitting of the 9th term held under the chairmanship of Khalid Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the Council, also reviewed a report of the draft labour law that included opinion of the Youth and Human Resources Committee, as well as views of the Legislative and Legal Committee of the Council.
The draft law came in (144) articles, divided into 10 chapters and detailed in 14 sections, which include definitions and general provisions, organization of work, work contract and obligations of the employer and worker. It also included a chapter on working hours, vacations, wages, and employment of juveniles.
The draft law also included a chapter on occupational safety and health, another chapter on trade unions, general unions, the General Federation of Workers, the law for settling collective labour disputes, strikes and closures, in addition to a chapter on labour inspection and joint dialogue between production stakeholders. The last section of the draft law included penalties.
