Muscat: In a step to set archeological landmarks ready for the tourism traffic, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) will inaugurate on Thursday Bisya and Salut Visitor Centre in the Wilayat of Bahla.

The official opening, which will be held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, will coincide with the activities of Al Dakhiliyah Festival 2023.

The Centre’s gallery is sectioned into three main halls, the first represents the Bronze Age, and the second displays the Iron Age and the Islamic Period, while the third represents the world heritage.

These halls encompass 21 boxes of antiques that entirely include 344 pieces, in addition to 28 portraits.

The newly set centre has dedicated a set of annual progrmmes to jointly activate the crucial role of the local community in safeguarding Omani heritage.

In a statement, Haitham al Ghassani, Director-General of Tourism Promotion, said, “The ministry has buckled down and worked keenly to promote the tourism potentials that Oman’s governorates are famed for”.

The governorate-level festivals aim at enticing visitors and residents, raising hotels’ occupancy, generating economic revenues, and ideally introducing the Omani cultural and historic legacy, he added.

The Salut archaeological site is a home to an ancient fortified collection of ruins and fortifications, some of which date to over 3,000 years ago. It reflects the broad network Oman had with the centres of world old civilisations, for instance, Mesopotamia, Persian civilization, Rome and Indus Valley.
